Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek 2025/2026

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, one of our friendly team members will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After settling in, we'll review your trekking itinerary and answer any questions you might have. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the vibrant streets of Kathmandu, visit local markets, or simply relax in your hotel after your journey.

Today is all about preparing for the trek. We'll ensure your permits are in order and make any final adjustments to gear. Use the rest of the day to explore Kathmandu’s heritage sites, such as Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple) or Durbar Square. This day is also an opportunity to familiarize yourself with your trekking gear.

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu via Arughat to Machha Khola. The 9-10 hour drive passes through rolling hills, terraced fields, and small villages, providing a glimpse into rural Nepali life. As you follow the Budhi Gandaki River, you’ll experience the excitement of leaving the hustle of Kathmandu behind as you approach the starting point of your trek.

Today’s trek starts by crossing the Machha Khola (Fish River) as you pass through small villages and terraced fields, gaining gradual elevation towards Jagat. The route is a combination of gentle climbs and river crossings, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the landscapes of the Manaslu region. Trekking for 6-7 hours, you’ll arrive at Jagat, a picturesque village at the foothills of the mountains.

The journey to Lokpa officially marks your entry into the Tsum Valley. Today’s trek is moderately challenging as you ascend through forests and alongside the Budhi Gandaki River. Lokpa is your first glimpse of the remoteness of the Tsum Valley, a restricted region known for its ancient Tibetan culture. The 6-7 hour trek introduces you to a more tranquil and culturally significant side of the trek.

Today’s 5-6 hour trek will lead you to Chumling, a village with deep Tibetan influences. As you traverse narrow paths and cross suspension bridges, you’ll be rewarded with your first major views of the Ganesh Himal range. Chumling is the perfect place to soak in the spiritual atmosphere and admire the traditional stone houses and monasteries that reflect the region's cultural heritage.

Today, your trek leads you deeper into the Tsum Valley as you make your way to Chhokangparo. The ascent takes about 5-6 hours and offers stunning views of the snow-capped peaks that surround you. Chhokangparo is a small village located on a ridge, and the panoramic views here are simply breathtaking.

Today’s 5-6 hour trek takes you further north into the Tsum Valley, bringing you closer to the Tibetan border. The landscapes shift dramatically, and you’ll find yourself surrounded by towering mountains as you approach the remote village of Nile. This village provides a peaceful stop before your journey to Mu Gompa.

Today is an exciting day as you trek for 3 hours to Mu Gompa, the highest point of your journey. Mu Gompa is the largest monastery in the region, and the panoramic views from here are unparalleled. Spend the day exploring the ancient monastery, soaking in the serene atmosphere, and admiring the surrounding peaks.

After your cultural exploration at Mu Gompa, retrace your steps back to Chhokangparo, trekking for about 4-5 hours. This is a wonderful opportunity to re-immerse yourself in the valley’s rich culture and enjoy the scenic landscapes as you descend.

Descend for 5-6 hours as you head back to Chumling. The easier trails allow you to fully appreciate the unique beauty and charm of the Tsum Valley.

Continue descending for about 6-7 hours, trekking through forests and crossing rivers until you reach the village of Deng. This area is rich in biodiversity, and you may encounter a variety of wildlife along the way.

The 6-7 hour trek from Deng to Namrung offers spectacular views as you pass through lush forests, crossing suspension bridges and walking alongside rivers. Namrung is a traditional village where you can observe local culture and customs, including monasteries that reflect the region’s Tibetan heritage.

The trek to Sama Gaon takes about 5-6 hours, with the landscape opening up to expansive views of Manaslu and other nearby peaks. Sama Gaon is one of the largest villages in the region, offering a glimpse into the lifestyle and traditions of the local Tibetan-influenced population.

Today is a much-needed rest day for acclimatization. You can explore Sama Gaon, visit the local monasteries, or take a short hike to enjoy more views of the surrounding mountains. This day is crucial for adjusting to the higher altitude before heading to the Larkya La Pass.

After breakfast in Samagaon, we descend to the Budhi Gandaki River and then follow it to a bridge over a side stream. Yet more mani walls, these people are intensely religious. As the valley begins to widen, the mountain views are amazing we are now very close to the Tibetan border.

The trail levels on a shelf above the river, we pass juniper and birch forests in Kermo Kharka. and then drop down and cross the Budhi Gandaki on a wooden bridge, before climbing steeply onto a promontory between two forks of the river. We come to a stone archway and continue walking until we reach the village of Samdo. Nice short day.

After breakfast in Samdo another fascinating day awaits first we pass a colourful seasonal Tibetan market called Larke Bazaar before descending to the Budi Gandaki River. Crossing it over the wooden bridge and begin to follow upward, crossing two streams while the Larkya Glacier keeps us company on our way. We skirt around the valley of the Salka Khola then climb up again to Dharamsala, also known as Larke Phedi. Along the route we pass many traditional monasteries.

Today’s shorter hike leaves time for acclimatization and relaxing in the afternoon.

A long and sometimes testing day that can take many people out of their comfort zone. so a hearty breakfast in Dharamsala is needed. it’s definitely more challenging today but with many rewards as we go.We encounter a number of rustic villages, we pass clear glacier lakes, trek through beautiful valleys with a wide range of flora and fauna, not to mention some stunning snow capped peaks.

After a short climb to the north side of the Larkya Glacier there are some awesome views of Cho Danda and Larkya Peak. Tough going as we walk across the moraine of the glacier, making a gradual ascent at first which becomes a lot steeper in the last section of the pass. From the pass it is just amazing there are outstanding views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and the massive Annapurna II. With the hard bit over our reward is a walk down into the misty low pastures in the early evening with Mount Manaslu looming in the distance.

The trail descends along the fig tree and rhododendron fortes, through the rocky riverbed and sliding hillsides to several small green villages. Eventually, after a long but very scenic day, we reach the large village of Goa. We stay overnight here today.

We are on the final day of the trek and in the mountains. The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trekking part comes to end at Tilije after trekking for about 2 hours from Goa today.

We will drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar from Tilije village. The drive is on a shared jeep to Besisahar and local bus to Kathmandu.
